What is a developmental edit?

No matter where you are planning on taking your book in the future, all stories need a developmental edit. This is where your editor will read your manuscript, looking at the overall content. They will leave comments and advice on the story structure, plot, characters, readability, etc.

A developmental editor may ask to extend chapters, shorten scenes, rework sentence structure, change names, delete comments, etc. All in hopes of helping your story succeed when it enters the hands of your readers.
